Menopause Weight Gain Isn't a Failure. Here's What Actually Helps.

If you've put on weight during menopause despite eating less and moving more, you haven't done anything wrong. Your body is running on different hormones than it was five years ago, and the old rules of "eat less, move more" stop working the way they used to.

That's not a motivation problem. It's a biology problem, and it needs a different approach.

Why the Old Advice Stops Working

Oestrogen does more than regulate your cycle. It plays a direct role in how your body stores fat, holds onto muscle, and manages insulin. As it drops through perimenopause and menopause, fat tends to shift toward the midsection, muscle becomes harder to hold onto, and the same diet and cardio routine that worked in your 30s can leave you exhausted and no lighter. Add disrupted sleep, mood changes, and joint aches into the mix, and it's no wonder so many women tell us they feel like they're doing everything right and still not seeing results.

Why Strength Training Is the Piece Most Women Are Missing

Muscle is metabolically expensive to maintain, meaning the more you have, the more energy your body burns at rest. Strength training also directly supports bone density at exactly the life stage when it starts declining, and it's one of the few tools that can meaningfully counteract the muscle loss that comes with lower oestrogen. Cardio still matters for heart health and mood, but on its own it won't protect the muscle and bone you're losing. Lifting, even light weights to start, gives your body a reason to hold onto both. One of our members, Clo, came to us at 50 after struggling with menopause weight gain and a loss of confidence that came with it. Since starting, she's lost over 15% body fat and gained over 5kg of muscle, and she'll tell you the biggest shift wasn't the number on the scale, it was realising what her body was still capable of.

What This Looks Like at RAW Inc

We're not going to hand you a generic plan and hope it works. Every new member goes through a one-to-one meet and greet and a movement screen before they train, so your coach knows what your body needs and what to work around, whether that's joint pain, low energy, or just nerves about starting again after years away from a gym. Sessions run in small groups of adults who are mostly navigating the same stage of life, which means nobody's watching the clock wondering if you're strong enough to be there. You already are.

You Don't Need to Figure This Out Alone

If you've been doing the cardio, cutting the calories, and still not seeing the shift, that's your sign to try something different, not to try harder at the same thing. Strength training, guided by someone who understands what's actually happening in your body, is the piece most women in perimenopause and menopause are missing.
